The tops of the fireweed are blooming near my house.
Fall has snuck up on us yet again.
I know most of us will lament the end to another Alaskan summer, and will try to sneak in as many “one mores” (one more hike, one more cookout, one more fishing trip) as we can. I know I’ll be outside as much as possible, searching for drops of sunshine when I can get it.
Of course each season brings with it unique blessings, and in the cycles of our life together as a church, fall brings with it a sense of homecoming. After the adventures and travels of summer, and I pray rest and Sabbath for many, we shift gears as we come back together for the school-year programs here at St. John.
Fall programs begin the week of September 10th!
This means Sunday school, youth group, [Worship+] (adult discipleship groups), Mini Methodists, Wednesday Night Supper, choir, Life Groups, Monday Morning Women, Young At Heart lunches, Kids’ Hope, and out church sponsored scouting groups (just to name a few) all are getting ready to start back up!
We will have a Fall Preview Day / Ministry Fair on Sunday September 3rd at 10:30am. Most of our different ministry groups will have information set up for you to browse and learn more about. Of course we know that that is Labor Day weekend, the Fair is happening in Palmer, and many of our youth will be away for their annual retreat.
So in the coming weeks we will be posting more information about these ministries and activities here on the blog, they are all listed on our website, and will be in the bulletin, on the screens in the announcements, as well as on bulletin boards around the triangle room.
Our mission at St. John is to “grow disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world, and to be a welcoming family, joyfully sharing God’s light.”
That word “GROW” is important. We deeply desire to help you grow as a disciple through every season of your life.
Often, that means making a plan, setting an intention, and sometimes even having someone else to help you be accountable (a family member, a small group, a member of the church staff…).
So a question for you as we get ready for fall: How do you hope to grow as a disciple of Jesus Christ this year?
And how can we help?
Grace & Peace,
