This past Sunday we passed out pledged cards in worship and asked for folks to prayerfully consider how God is calling them to generously support the mission and ministries of St. John in 2017.
We were blessed to hear from our own Kyle and Julie Cheesbrough and why giving generously to St. John is important to them. You can view the short video again by clicking https://vimeo.com/184922364
In my sermon, I shared that St. John has a $1.1 million dollar annual budget. A portion of this goes to support ministry across Alaska and the denomination (apportionments). A portion goes to facility costs so that we have a place to welcome the community in. A portion goes to purchasing curriculum and 3rd grade Bibles and other instructional material for discipleship, but the majority of that $1.1 million dollars goes to funding staff like Judith, and Robbie, and Erin, and Pastor Nico, and Pastor Andy, who teach us about being disciples so that we can go into the city and be a blessing for others.
We are about $75,000 in the red for 2016. We have cut a few part time positions. As a means of leading by example, and because I believe in you and plan to be with you for many years to come, I shared that my family has been giving $160/week to St. John, but beginning this week, we will increase our giving to $192/week, which translates into $770/month or $10,000 over the course of a year.
Please prayerfully consider how God is calling you to give generous to and through St. John UMC.
All grace and Peace,
