After reviewing multiple proposals, this year our Mission and Outreach team has decided to split our annual PFD Tithe between a new church start in Anchorage (in 2018) and Birchwood Camp. These two gifts share a unifying theme of creating opportunities for more and more people to be touched by the love of God expressed through faithful disciples.
On Sunday October 8th the Rev. Bill Gibson will join us in worship to share a little bit about the vision for this new church start in Anchorage. We are excited to partner with our Alaska Conference in supporting this project to create new spaces for new people. We are particularly excited and hopeful for the vision of a church that more fully reflects the diversity of Anchorage and can even teach us new ways of being church into the future.
On Sunday October 15th Meghan Woods, the current President of Birchwood Camp’s Board of Directors will join us. Meghan will be sharing with us some of the work that the Board has been doing to plan for the next decade of ministry at Birchwood. Our gifts this year will help to lay the foundations for Birchwood’s future through a necessary replacement and expansion of the camp’s septic system.
In the past two years alone we at St. John have given approximately $34,000 to our partners in ministry through our annual PFD Offering. These gifts have and will continue to make a transformative impact in our community.
Please join me this October in tithing from our PFDs.
