Waiting is not very fun. It takes effort, patience and time. However, at this time of year, our faith reminds us to wait and prepare for Jesus’ birth. We are asked to slow down and take time to focus on Jesus, the gift he is, and the hope he inspires. My family waits for Jesus’s birth by incorporating the Advent wreath as part of our table grace every night before dinner, we wait by finding extra time to sit together in the evening and play I Spy with our Christmas tree. We wait by hiding the baby Jesus from our Advent calendar and then finding him, and we wait by being present with family and friends during this season.
At St. John this past Sunday we lit the candle of hope in our Advent wreath, and in doing so we told the world that Jesus is the light of the world, the way through the darkness, and that he is worth waiting for. How will you spend your time waiting for the birth of Christ this Advent?
