DAYS FOR GIRLS REPORT
Days for Girls Mission: Creating a more dignified, free and educated world through access to lasting feminine hygiene solutions.
The South Anchorage Days for Girls sewing team meets at the Anchorage ReMade store the first Thursday of every month from 4-8:00pm. Other sewing groups have been taking a summer break.
In July and August we gave away 455 Days For Girls kits in assorted places in Guatemala. This included five Avivara schools, the Salud y Paz clinic and a women’s clinic in Jalapa, the Manos Abiertas midwife clinic in Antigua, a group of girls from five communities near Jalapa, and the elementary school in Comanchaj. We also gave away over 170 pods (two liners folded in a shield).
Days For Girls is establishing an enterprise in Panajachel (an enterprise is a small local business that provides jobs for women making DFG kits and training to be ambassadors of women’s health in their community) The enterprise hopes to be up and running soon. We brought them some supplies, and purchased 40 extra pods from them as gifts to some of the mothers of the girls we served.
The Anchorage ReMade store has provided fabric, supplies and workspace for the sewn kit components. There is an estimated 6 hours of time needed to sew each kit, so 455 kits was a huge effort! Several church groups and other community service organizations have also helped. We have been blessed with many dedicated sewers and contributors.
We wish to thank all our sponsors. We are so grateful for the opportunity to be part of this life-changing effort, and for all the help our sponsors provide. We believe in girls!
