A Jesus Centered, Theologically Diverse & Spiritually Vital Christian Community

St. John United Methodist Church’s mission is to grow disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world and to be a welcoming family, joyfully sharing God’s light.

We believe that you belong to God. We strive to be a welcoming family, and celebrate the diversity each person brings. No matter your doubts and questions, your race or ethnicity, your age, economic status, physical or mental abilities, your sexual orientation, your gender identity, no matter whom you call family, we hope to welcome you into the St. John family. We invite you to come as you are, for you are loved by God.

2019 PFD TITHE CHALLENGED ANNOUNCED!

Friends of St. John,
It is that time of again as Alaskans we celebrate one of the many gifts of living in this great state. For the past several years we have encouraged our congregation members to contribute 10% of their PFD to St. John towards the #PFDTitheChallenge. This year, our Mission & Outreach team designated the recipient of these funds to be the United Methodist Church of Chugiak to finish up the repairs from last year's earthquake. St. John's goal is to raise $20k of the $35k needed to complete the damage done to the front entry... a perfect representation of opening doors as United Methodists. Take a moment to watch this video where Pastor Andy shares about how your contribution will make a huge impact and a personal message of how UMCC played a role in his journey to St. John. Thank you!

JustServe

St John is developing a directory that will assist members of the Church in recognizing each other. Please send a current family portrait (jpg) and/or updated info to Patti Butcher for inclusion in the directory at: members.sjumc@gmail.com. If you don't have a favorite family portrait or don't have the ability to send a JPEG photo there will be opportunities during church activities in September to have a snapshot taken. We look forward to this project and the ability to put names to faces as we continue our efforts to be a friendly and welcoming church.

We’ve made good progress in cleaning up the new property to our east. We still need to take down some of the old sheds that are falling in on themselves. If you are interested in being part of a workgroup to help demolish the old structures, talk to John Meyn or Pastor Andy!

Pray Ground Summer 2019.jpg

The Summer Pray-Ground was such a successful trial, we'd like to extend it into the fall at the 11:30 service! Please continue to encourage your young children (PreK-early elementary) to enjoy our pray-ground throughout worship. (Know at EVERY service, children of ALL ages are welcome to sit with their families throughout!) *** Please note a few changes to our 11:30 service pray-ground for fall: Children are invited to sit with their parents until children's time. If children would like to return to their seats with their parents following children's time, WOW boxes are available for use. If they'd like to sit in the pray-ground, it has moved to the north-ex. We will be decorating an altar table banner for use in the service during prayer time.

Looking for something to do after the 11:30 a.m. service?  Come to lunch with ‘The Lunch Bunch.’  Some of the St. John folk gather after church to go out to lunch. Where do we eat? Don’t worry, the spot to eat is chosen by mutual consent. ALL ARE WELCOME! Contact Lyn Barela for more info.
