A Jesus Centered, Theologically Diverse & Spiritually Vital Christian Community

St. John United Methodist Church’s mission is to grow disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world and to be a welcoming family, joyfully sharing God’s light.

We believe that you belong to God. We strive to be a welcoming family, and celebrate the diversity each person brings. No matter your doubts and questions, your race or ethnicity, your age, economic status, physical or mental abilities, your sexual orientation, your gender identity, no matter whom you call family, we hope to welcome you into the St. John family. We invite you to come as you are, for you are loved by God.

Exciting News At St. John…

Congratulations to Rose McLean who received the United Methodist Men’s SUSANNAH WESLEY AWARD at the 9:15am worship service on Sunday, August 4th. Also, the ALASKAN HARVEST stained glass created by Mindy Meyn and Kate Bartel was dedicated in her honor. We love you Rose!

On Sunday August 4th we celebrated the announcement that Kenny & Leslie Gerondale, in honor of Linda & Orlo Heim and their many years of dedicated service to St John, has purchased the two acres to our east for future ministry at St John. Please be sure to express your gratitude to Linda and Orlo as well as Leslie and Kenny for this incredible gift. May God bless the future use of this property!

Did You Miss Worship on Sunday?

Summer time and Alaskan sunshine doesn’t mean you can’t catch up on Sunday’s sermons during the week… Join us for Wednesday Rewind at 5:55pm every week!

Clare House Volunteering.jpg

Because of cuts to the State Budget, Clare House, a shelter continuing to care for women with children and expecting mothers is seeking volunteers that are interested in helping to assist in keeping their shelter operating during the day. The shifts are broken down into two three-hour shifts, 9 am-12 pm or 12 pm to 3 pm. Duties will consist of answering phone calls, signing off on chores, answering the door intercom, processing donations, helping in the kitchen, and interacting with participants in the program, including children. If you are interested you may complete a volunteer application located at wwww.cssalaska.org. If you have any questions feel free to call Brigette Guzy, HR Director, at 222-7384. This is another great opportunity to demonstrate the love of God to families in this time of great need!

Everyone is welcome to sing, no audition needed! Rehearsals are weekly on Wednesdays from 6:30 - 8:00p.m. in the sanctuary. On Sunday mornings choir warms up at 8:45 a.m. and sings at the 9:15 a.m. service.
Those interested can contact James for more info, jwardlawbailey@gmail.com or 907-575-1711

Property Update… We’ve made good progress in cleaning up the new property to our east. We still need to take down some of the old sheds that are falling in on themselves. If you are interested in being part of a workgroup to help demolish the old structures, talk to John Meyn or Pastor Andy!

Pray Ground Summer 2019.jpg

The Summer Pray-Ground was such a successful trial, we'd like to extend it into the fall at the 11:30 service! Please continue to encourage your young children (PreK-early elementary) to enjoy our pray-ground throughout worship. (Know at EVERY service, children of ALL ages are welcome to sit with their families throughout!)

Children's choir begins on Wed. Sept 11th from 6 - 6:30 p.m. for 3rd-6th graders. The choir will sing in one of the Sunday services once a month. If your child would like to join in on the musical fun, email Erynne DeVore at children.sjumc@gmail.com or contact Janet Stiles to let her know!

We will be offering summer preschool/children's worship for children ages 3 years old through entering 1st grade beginning SundayMay 26th at 9:15. We are looking for volunteers who'd like to commit to 1-2 Sundays a month for the summer children’s worship. This would be a perfect opportunity for college students or teachers home for the summer! Please let Ms. Erynne know (children.sjumc@gmail.com)

Looking for something to do after the 11:30 a.m. service?  Come to lunch with ‘The Lunch Bunch.’  Some of the St. John folk gather after church to go out to lunch. Where do we eat? Don’t worry, the spot to eat is chosen by mutual consent. ALL ARE WELCOME! Contact Lyn Barela for more info.
